Minimum Wage - Look Em In The Eye

Look em in the eye!!

Over the past 10 years this Republican Congress has (a) voted itself $35,000 in pay raises and (b) voted to raise this President’s annual salary by $200,000 – doubling President Clinton’s salary.
At the same time, this Republican controlled Congress refuses to raise the $5.15 per hour federal minimum wage. 15 million bucks in pay raises for the political elite and not one dime for the working poor!!! Now there’s legislation that ties a minimum wage increase to favorable tax legislation for the more fortunate. What’s wrong with this picture??

When President Bush was asked about his visit with President Putin of Russia, he said “I looked the man in the eye” - “I was able to get a sense of his soul”. He’s a man deeply committed to the best interests of his country”.
Mr. President, maybe you and your party should take a look into the eyes of the millions of minimum wage earners in this country just to get a sense of their souls - One look and you would see fellow human beings who are deeply committed to their very own survival? Maybe eye contact would unleash a flood of compassion or tickle your moral values? Go ahead, look them straight in the eye and tell them how well the economy is doing? Tell them not to “ cut & run” tell them to just “stay the course”. To use an old East Texas saying (something this cowboy can relate to) -It's time to come to the lick-log" for you Mr. President, for this Congress, for this Country, and yes for you and me. We all need to take a peek in the mirrow and remind ourselves that we not only can, but we must do better, not tomorrow, not next week, not next month or next year, but NOW. To quote an oft-used biblical verse ‘Anything you refused to do for any of my people here, you also refused to do for me.'
